During the dark quarantine of 2020 when all tattoo shops were quiet and barren, tattooers craved the energy of their bygone days. Not knowing how long everyone had to stay at home, one tattooer embarked on a journey to keep obsessing over their craft offsite without putting a needle to skin…
Behold, Tattertainment: A collection of clips that feature the classic art of body modification through the lens of pop culture in cinema. Tattoos can be used as the butt of the joke, the jab in an emotional story or the entire plot device for the film. Not surprisingly, most of the content is of white actors due to the lack of representation on screen of other cultures, let alone within the tattooing subculture despite its indigenous roots.
The first of many, this project explores tattooing as it relates to our world and the social content we consume. Available to rent on VHS at Portland’s own Movie Madness. VHS Copies are available to buy at Movie Madness and at Mortal Emblem located in the Lloyd Center Mall. Enjoy!
